A simple lesson for those who decided to quit smoking: if you decided to quit, researchers advise you to drink a lot of milk. This affirmation is not just an assumption, but a real truth that medical researchers have discovered recently.

A team from the journal Nicotine and Tobacco Research conducted a research to explore the effects of food and beverages on cigarette perception.

209 smokers were asked to name items that worsen or enhance the taste of cigarette smoke.

Milk and cheese take the first place as the best items that worsen the taste of cigarettes. This opinion was shared by almost 99 % of interviewees. Another 14 % said that water or juice spoil the taste. Additional 2 % spoke about vegetables and 16 % named fruits.

44 % reported that taste of cigarette smoke can be enhanced seriously by alcoholic beverages. Almost the same percentage has caffeinated beverages, such as tea, cola and coffee and only 11 % reported meat.

Jed E. Rose of the Duke University Medical Center study said that this kind of identification of components of foods and beverages could be used to create new treatments for those who want to quit smoking.

This kind of helpersin form of gum or lozenge can serve as part of cessation treatment.
